DIRTY LITTLE FRIDAY w joe
DIRTY LITTLE FRIDAYS
WITH ALL THE DEAD BOYS ..................
2.6.26 JOE

HAPPY FRIDAY
Joe is back.
He was a bit of a favorite back when I first posted pics of him for my month of BACKWOODS BOYS on IG.
.
We recently shot again in NYC, and I think you’ll agree -he’s a keeper ;)
When I shoot a guy like Joe, I end up with soooo many great images.
Way more than the three that I use for a DIRTY LITTLE FRIDAY.
Sure, I post them on my Patreon, and sometimes on ALL THE DEAD BOYS dot com. But these days, when I’m shooting - I’m often thinking about how the images will look and feel in this weekly email.
One vertical.
One horizontal.
Another vertical.
.
This means I end up with lots of options, and sometimes it’s oh so hard to choose which images to use.

.
I’ve created this (self-inflicted) mandate for myself about sending new guys your way every single week.
But there’s a part of me that wants to dwell on favorites (yours and mine) like Joe, Raury, Ben, Eric, Dan, Kodiak, and the list goes on and on.
.
So I may be loosening up on my ‘new guy every week’ mandate and return to some of these guys again and again, week after week.
.
Because most of you are not Patrons (and that’s totally fine), but it also means you’re only seeing the pics from these emails.
And I want you to see so much more…

.
.
I’m back in NYC and finally in a groove of seeing movies - both at home and in the theater.
Here are some favorites from the last week.
.
MOTHER OF FLIES on Shudder
The Adams Family (the upstate filmmaking clan who create at an awe-inspiring pace) are one of the most exciting voices in true DIY indie horror. MOTHER OF FLIES is personal backwoods rural folk horror darkness at its best. If you loved THE DEEPER YOU DIG and HELLBENDER, you’ll love this one.
.
28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE in theater
What a fucking ride. That scene in the barn is grueling and gruesome and provides an undiluted dose of what genre fans love best - pure horrific mayhem. Nia DaCosta is the real deal.
.
ISLANDS in theater
This is a melancholic slow-burn about a tennis instructor at a holiday resort who gets wrapped up in the complicated secrets of a visiting couple and their young son, who he’s giving lessons to. Definitely not horror, but haunting and beautifully photographed with this gently roiling anxiety underlying every moment.
.
LAZY EYE on tubi
The director, Tim Kirkman, reads DIRTY LITTLE FRIDAYS :) and after he responded to last week’s newsletter about my new micro budget project, I wanted to check out his stuff. I loved LAZY EYE. Also melancholic, this is about a pair of ex-lovers reconnecting over a couple of days in Joshua Tree, and it nails a specific bittersweet, middle-aged gay malaise in a way that feels all too real.
.
RIFT on tubi
This was a rewatch of Erlingur Thoroddsen’s (he wrote MIDNIGHT KISS, which I directed for Blumhouse/Hulu) 2017 queer horror masterpiece. Also melancholic (it was quite a moody week), this is every bit as haunting as I remember. If you haven’t seen it, you are missing out. I’m anxiously awaiting another intimate queer horror story like this from Erlingur.
.
One film I’m super excited to check out when it’s released this weekend is Noam Kroll’s TEACHER’S PET. He’s been sooo inspiring when it comes to making micro budget projects without waiting for permission and I’m eager to support pretty much anything he put out.
.
.
So that’s what I’ve been watching.
What about you? What have you seen and loved?
Hit reply and let me know.
As usual, thanks for being here. I really do appreciate it.
Until next week.

P.S.
I love getting responses from you.
Everything from book and movie reccomendations to smutty selfies and anything/everything else you send my way.
Last week I heard from Danny, who was writing to let me know how much he loved YELLOW HAZE.
I’d heard from Danny before and knew that he collects vintage porn when he finds it in second hand shops. He sent along a couple photographs he’d recently picked up and I thought I’d include one here. It’s labelled “September 3, 1978 Bill” and building a story around this msyterious sleeping man just set my imagination on fire.
Thank you, Danny, for sharing Bill with me/us.
.
(I checked with Danny to make sure he was okay with me sharing this - I’d never share something here that was emailed to me privately without consent. fyi)
