HAPPY FRIDAY

I heard from a lot of you last week that the links I included weren’t working. At first I thought maybe I put in too many?

Is 21 too many?

But now it looks like it was an issue Buttondown (my email service) had on Friday morning of last week - exactly when I sent DIRTY LITTLE FRIDAYS. Buttondown seems to have lots of ‘issues’, but I have to grin and bear it at this point, knowing they’re ok with 🍌. If you emailed me saying the links weren’t live - let me know if they’re working now.

The most mentioned ‘missing link’ was for Raury’s IG (where you can find out more about RAURY UNDRESSED, his sexy self-portrait Polaroid show on December 13)

I also got a ton of responses (both 🍌 and non-🍌), and I appreciate it sooooooo much.

I’m assuming that this week’s DIRTY LITTLE FRIDAY will make it to that many more inboxes as I work my way up the email trustworthiness ladder.

I shot with Raury again this week and now officially have enough of him to make a full zine.

.

It usually takes more than one shoot to get enough images.

I was happy to hear so many of you are excited about the zines. I’m working on layouts and editing images.

It’s soooo many hours of editing and organizing as I decide what makes the final cut.

.

.

.

As I sit alone at my laptop working on the zines, I’ve been thinking about my ALL THE DEAD BOYS Patreon.

.

I post new (and old) images there every week, but pretty much all of my ‘communication’ happens here in the newsletter.

.

.

If you’ve been reading for a while, you know how much I love an online ‘group’.

Writing groups. Coworking. Zoom hangouts. Workshops and classes.

I get so much from hanging out in (some) digital spaces.

.

I spent a whole year showing up most Tuesdays and Thursdays for Landscapes hosted by Cody Cook-Parrott.

And loved it.

.

.

Sometimes digital rooms can be great. It’s in that spirit that I’ve been thinking about experimenting with hosting digital spaces.

I know I’ve mentioned doing lives before.

.

But the idea of adding even the simplest version of that live / tech element to a shoot feels completely overwhelming.

.

Remember, I’m already doing the makeup, hair, wardrobe, sets and props, lighting, and digital capture.

.

.

.

.

But I do like the idea of getting to hang out digitally ‘live’ with Patrons.

.

I could do a bit of an ask me anything Q and A type hang. But that feels lame somehow.

Maybe not?

.

A live stream of me doing a guy’s makeup?

Again, seems like a lot to add that additional element to a shoot day.

.

.

But I’ve also been thinking about the idea of doing some of my image editing in LIVES. Going through the (sometimes thousands) of images I end up with from a shoot.

.

Making selects.

.

Playing with color and cropping.

.

Figuring out which images will go to which platforms.

What a DIRTY LITTLE FRIDAY with that guy will look like.

.

Talking through the images and answering questions as I go.

I’d have to upgrade and get good at hosting Zoom rooms and running some sort of screen sharing program...

But it could be kind of fun if I get the tech to cooperate.

.

What other versions of hanging out ‘live‘ am I leaving out?

THIS IS WHAT I’VE BEEN WATCHING

BUGONIA 4 (maybe 4.5) ⭐️ What a fucking powerhouse of a movie. I want Jesse Plemmons and Emma Stone in EVERY MOVIE.

THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE remake 2 ⭐️ even Maika Monroe bashing that guy’s head in wasn’t enough to save this for me.

DIE MY LOVE 4 ⭐️ The more I think about it, the more I love it. I need to see it again. Maybe a double feature with MOTHER?

SHELBY OAKS 3.5 ⭐️ I watched a matinee of this alone and was thoroughly creeped out (in the best possible way) for hours afterwards. (Probably a 3-star movie TBH, but I was impressed with how unsettled it made me feel)

KEEPER 2.5 ⭐️ Super beautiful and creepy, but way more style than substance. And oh sooooo slooooow. But I do love Tatiana Maslany.

THE CARPENTER’S SON 3.5 ⭐️ Deeply disturbing historical religious horror with Nicholas Cage and FKA Twigs? Yes please! Noah Jupe, who plays ‘the boy’ is incredible.

I can’t stop listening to this song.

I’ve had it on repeat all week, and I’m not even kidding when I say I listened hundreds (thousands?) of times. I’m almost scared to listen to any of this artist’s other tracks because I don’t wanna burst the bubble of perfection that is I WALK THIS EARTH ALONE…
